PROJECT OVERVIEW
PVT Forum is part of PV-Catapult, a new Coordination Action within the 6th
Framework Programme of the European Union. The aim of PVT Forum is to lay the
foundations for a large-scale introduction of PVT technology in Europe. This is
achieved by bringing together PVT experts, PV and solar thermal industries and
other stakeholders in a set of workshops, laying the basis for a new and strong
European network for PVT technology.

The project aims at laying the foundations for a large scale introduction of PVT
into the market. The aspects that determine this introduction are the market,
technology (R&D and industry) and standards and policy aspects. The
activities of the project (circles) are aimed at creating optimal base
positions and development directions for these aspects, pushing the PVT arrow
further into the future European solar energy market, not only entering it but
also enlarging it.
Objectives
The main objective of PVT Forum is to formulate a plan for marketing and
research and development on PVT for the short, medium and long term, in order
to enlarge the market penetration of the PVT products on the long term. The
following specific objectives can be identified:
-
identify stakeholders and their representatives and probe their view on the PVT
future,
-
organise workshops to inform the target groups and to discuss strategies for
large-scale market introduction of PVT,
-
define the necessary R&D activities for PVT improvement and for next-generation
PVT, based on the market needs as assessed in the workshops,
-
provide a scientific forum connecting the various R&D institutes working on
PVT.This is intended to be the basis for future activities on PVT.
Description of work
Two workshops will be organised, in which
-
PV and solar thermal industries, R&D institutes and other parties involved
discuss the ways along which PVT products and systems can enter the European
market on a large scale, and in which
-
the R&D problems and challenges will be identified that have to be tackled
in the near and further future.
Furthermore, a PVT roadmap will be produced that
describes the way of tackling these problems and a plan for increasing the
effectiveness of European PVT R&D through the initial exchange of scientists.
The pivot of these activities is the gathering, processing and dissemination of
information on PVT. The information dissemination is principally aimed at key
persons in the fields that determine the success of PVT introduction: PVT
marketing, R&D and industry, standardisation and policy. An important part of
the dissemination is the writing of a PVT roadmap, containing both R&D and
market issues.
A large-scale introduction of PVT is only possible if the products meet
predefined quality and safety standards and if the testing procedures follow
unified rules. In this project an inventory is made of possible actions for the
proposal of a standard on PVT.
